Malheur Series

This recent work is inspired by the Malheur Wild Life Refuge in Southeastern Oregon.  I have spent much time exploring the Malheur Refuge, Steens Mountain and the Alvord Desert.  After the recent armed occupation I was inspired to create some art that explores the wild fragile beauty of this remote corner of Oregon.  The monotype lends itself to creating rich landscapes where the sky and the earth and the water touch and reflect each other creating a rich impressionistic image of the land.  The is sacred land to not only the Native people, but to all who understand, appreciate and honor the fragile beauty of this vast diverse land.

Each piece is 20x20 on Arches 88 paper with oil based ink.  August 2016
